State champ football
teams named parade marshals
The
Schulenburg Festival Association has chosen the
three Shorthorn state champion football teams as
parade marshals for its 2007 event the first weekend
in August. Members of the 1972 team, who will be
celebrating their 35th reunion, had a record of
12-1-2. They beat Clarendon for the state title
14-10. Members of the 1991 team had a record of 16-0
and beat Albany 21-0 in the state final. The 1992
team compiled a 15-1 record and downed Goldthwaite
35-20 for the state title. Members will be
celebrating their 15th reunion. Each of these teams
helped make Schulenburg well-known for having a rich
football tradition. The Festival Association is
proud to honor them by having them lead the parade,
which will be held Sunday, Aug. 5 starting at 11
a.m. through downtown to Wolters Park. This years
parade directors are Sheila Brossmann, Roxann
Redding, Mary Jane Pesek, and Shelley Redding.
Parade entry forms will be available in the Sticker
later this summer or you may contact any of the
directors.
