The
Schulenburg Festival Association is proud to
announce that our Festival Rodeo has been named CPRA
/ UPRA Co-Sanctioned Rodeo of the Year for 2008.
This is an honor that we take great pride in
achieving and is a tribute to the hard work and
dedication of our Rodeo Committee. Voted on by the
contestants, this award designates Schulenburg as
the top Rodeo in our division across the state.
The
Festival Rodeo was named CRPA Rodeo of the Year in
2005 and 2006 as well. Despite that success the
Festival Association chose to make a change to
better itself for the patrons who support the event.
After the 2006 season the Rodeo Committee evaluated
where they were. The number of riders as well as the
level of talent had dropped off. Rather than settle
with the success of Rodeo of the Year, the Rodeo
Committee chose to research where we were in terms
of other venues. What they found was that the
perception among contestants was a lack of talent in
stock provided by our current stock contractor. On
the rodeo circuit, the contestants go where the best
rides are, because that means overall points in
their quest to be the best. After several months of
researching, the Committee chose to switch stock
contractors and made a move to Cadillac Rodeo
Company.
This
has proven to be an excellent decision. Cadillac
Rodeo Company also does the Bastrop Rodeo the same
weekend as the festival and in the first year,
Schulenburg along with Bastrop held the first ever
Colorado River Shootout, which gave an added prize
to the overall points winner from both rodeos. What
this meant to Schulenburg is that more contestants
than ever came to town trying to win the top prize
by competing in both rodeos. This past year was our
second year with Cadillac Rodeo Company and we had
more contestants than we’ve ever had, the quality of
competitors has increased and the overall atmosphere
improved. We added a new “funny man” clown and one
of the top bull fighters around.
Prior
to the 2008 festival we signed a 3 year contract
with Cadillac Rodeo Company to form a partnership
that will take our rodeo to an even higher level.
Cadillac Rodeo Company owner/operator is committed
to helping make our rodeo first class and we have
been honored to hear many of his stock hands
fighting for the opportunity to come to Schulenburg.
The
reason this latest award means so much is because it
validates our commitment to giving you the best
rodeo possible. After winning back to back rodeo of
the year awards, changing was not an easy decision.
It meant a change in contractor and we also chose to
go from a strictly CPRA rodeo to a co sanctioned
CPRA/UPRA rodeo, which at that time took us out of
contention for CPRA Rodeo of the Year. Winning this
recent award proves to us we made the right choice
in our continued efforts to build on our success.
We
would like to thank the citizens of Schulenburg and
the surrounding towns that come support our rodeos.
It is your attendance, hospitality and enthusiasm
that help the contestants vote for the Festival
Rodeo. As a way to say thank you, we pledge to
continue to make our rodeo not only one of the best
for the contestants, but for you – our loyal
supporters as well. A special thanks to all of our
rodeo sponsors, without your commitment to community
service, the rodeo would not be possible.
