The 12th Annual
Schulenburg Festival Golf Classic will be held on Friday,
August 3rd at the Weimar Golf Course with a tee time
of 9:00 a.m.
The format will once again
be a 4-person scramble, and will follow the system of
forming teams that we implemented in 2007. Players will be
able to form their own team, regardless of each player’s
handicap. At the completion of play, teams will then be “flighted”.
Here’s how it works…Let’s
say we have 18 teams. All teams will play their 18 holes and
bring their scorecards into the clubhouse to be “flighted”.
The very best score of the day (lowest score) will be the #1
team. The second best score will be the #2 team and so
forth, until we have teams from #1 through #18.
There would be three
flights with six teams in each flight. So the #1 team would
win the 1st Flight and the #2 team would be 2nd in that
flight. The #7 team would win the 2nd Flight with the #8
team placing 2nd. Then the #13 team would win the 3rd Flight
and the #14 team would take 2nd in the last flight. Any ties
will be broken by a scorecard playoff from hole #18 back.
“Lady Luck” definitely
comes into play. The #12 team will then wish they played a
little worse somewhere along the way, dropping one shot to
par which could have moved them into the 13th spot to win
the 3rd flight.
“This way, friends can
team up and know they’ll play together regardless of what
their handicaps are,” Olle said. “If four “A” golfers want
to play together, fine. They’ll be shooting for the very
best score of the day. But an ‘average’ team can just play
the best they can and hope they fall into one of the
‘winning’ slots.”
“The tournament has never
been about someone having a chance to win a huge cash
prize,” said Olle. “It’s been about having FUN, playing with
friends, and raising money for worthwhile causes. So if
you’re in it to win big money, this tournament is not for
you.”
The tournament is limited
to 72 players or (18) 4-person teams. This way, play moves
along at a better pace.
If you do not have a
4-person team, we’ll take your name and put you on a team
that may also be looking for players. “I would advise
everyone to sign up as soon as possible as the first 72
golfers who sign up will be entered,” Olle said.
The entry fee is $55.00
per player (cart rental NOT included). Cart rentals are
handled directly through the Weimar Golf Course. Players who
have carts are “strongly encouraged” to bring them to Weimar
on tournament day as there are a limited number of rental
carts available.
Cash and prizes will be
awarded to the 1st and 2nd Place teams in each of the three
flights. There will also be prizes for Longest Drive and
Closest to the Pin. There will also be an optional Skins
Game.
There will be pigs,
kolaches and donuts (courtesy of Kountry Bakery in
Schulenburg) served in the morning and sausage wraps
(courtesy of J-Bar-B Foods) served at the turn.
“The Festival Golf Classic
has raised over $46,000 in our first 11 tournaments, thanks
in large part to the tremendous support of area businesses,”
Olle added. “As with all Festival monies raised, proceeds go
toward scholarships, charitable causes and civic projects in
the community.”
